PAT Mailbox Systems Overview:
PAT Mailbox Systems aimed to deliver a sleek wireless mailbox access solution for apartment buildings, buildings with high tenant turnover and student housing. By providing an electric lock the mailbox can be opened remotely via app and the addition of an E-Ink screen with wireless capabilities enabled building managers to remotely update visible contact details without having to be onsite.
Roles and Responsibilities :
Product Design & Manufacturing
Within PAT I was responsible for the design, mechanical functionality and aesthetic of the physical product using CAD software, creating in-house prototypes from initial cardboard mockups through to 3D printed units and finally coordinating with manufacturing partners for commercial samples and preparation for mass production.
Additionally I worked closely with the founder and senior software team members to identify the electronic hardware requirements, at which point I developed the supply chain necessary and oversaw procurement operations.
Initial Concept
Designed to be sleek and simple, the design called for a two part modular unit. With an E-Ink screen on the front, along with an RFID reader under the logo and the inside housed the power module, PCB’s and lock.
Finished Unit
The finished unit was matte black, with a two tone e-ink display, RFID and wireless capabilities and met the customer requirements across the board.
