Climb Norway Design Portfolio

Climb Norway Overview:

Climb Norway aims to introduce innovative new materials and products to rock climbing, outdoor and climbing safety markets.

By manufacturing the products out of cutting edge titanium alloys significant weight savings can be achieved enabling both an easier climbing experience and the ability to carry more equipment. Furthermore the strength, durability and environmental resistance provided by the materials enables a longer use life; particularly in high salt and corrosive enviroments.

Roles and Responsibilities :

Product Design, Manufacturing and Materials Specialist

At Climb Norway I was fully responsible for the materials selection and assessment, total design and functionality of new and existing products in new materials. This involved creating in-house prototypes with additive manufacturing through to coordinating with manufacturing partners for commercial samples and coordination with third parties for testing and review.

Additionally I worked closely with the founders and active users to identify gaps in the market that could be addressed through new products and ideas.

Glue Bolt

Designed to be lightweight and corrosion resistant, the glue bolt is glued into a bore hole in rock and other materials to provide an anchor point for ropes and carabiners.

Expansion Bolt

Similar to the Glue Bolt; the expansion bolt is lightweight and corrosive resistant. Designed to be inserted into a borehole, tightened and the flared head expands and locks into place.

Bent Anchor

The bent anchor is crafted to be used with clue bolts, expansion bolts and other fasteners. Strength and weight are maximised by the titanium materials. Designs included a standard oval and a variety of concept units.

Solid Ring Anchor

The solid ring unit does what it says on the tin. Made from titanium the unit is perfect for ropes and carabiners.

Nut and Washer

Set to be used with the expansion bolt amongst others the nut and washer provided substantial locking strength weight reduction.

Split Anchor

The split anchor was created to enable a hot-swap of parts into the anchor ring, cutting out using extra carabiners to link parts. Concepts included a carabiner style anchor, twist/slide lock and a split ring integrated anchor.

Split Ring

The standalone split ring was developed alongside the split ring anchor. It enabled part of the ring to be removed; the ring joined with parts that are also solid such as off the shelf anchors and then reassembled.
